HISTORY
The first concrete roof tiles were produced in England in the1920's. During this early period Britain faced dense smog, severe freezing and thawing, hurricane force winds and acid rain, which caused the demise of many less hardy roofing materials. Concrete roof tiles withstood this severe test, they were stronger than most clay tiles and had no tendency to delaminate or absorb moisture. Today concrete roof tiles dominate the roofing market in Europe, withstanding the harsh cold climates of Norway, Finland and Sweden down to the balmy shores of the Mediterranean, the manufacturers offering warranties varying from 50 to 60 to 100 years.
COLUMBIA ROOF TILE
Columbia Concrete Products is Canada's largest manufacturer of concrete roofing tiles and has been producing concrete roof tiles since 1973. The factory was totally automated in 1979 and1990 to keep abreast of ever increasing demand. Production has more than doubled from the initial plant.
INDUSTRY SERVICE
Columbia initiated and played a major role in establishing a Canada-wide C.S.A. Standard for the manufacturing and installation of concrete roofing tiles. This new standard has been adopted by the B.C. Building Code and the National Building Code. In compliance with this standard, quality control tests are carried out by independent testing authorities and Columbia is known to produce the strongest tiles in the industry.
THE NEW PLANT 1996
In 1993 construction was started on a new state of the art plant incorporating the latest technology available, and is able to produce one roof tile in one half of a second. The new plant has been in production since March of 1996 and will be able to provide for our local and export customers for many years to come.
INDUSTRY AWARDS
Columbia Roof Tile is Canada's leading roof tile manufacturer and has received numerous industrial awards for Business, Marketing and Product Development.
